Well water? Where we’re going we don’t need well water!

One of the many natural perks of Abruzzo is spring water.  Unlike most of the rest of Italy Abruzzo towns and villages don’t need to pull water from out of the ground and filter it before it gets to the home, the mountains do that for us.  The rain falls, the water runs downhill from the mountains where the rock and the vegetation treat it naturally, it then is collected by the strategically placed pumping stations where it is then distributed to the nearby towns.  Many bottled water companies actually come to the Abruzzo mountains for their supply of healthy natural water.

Abruzzo soil is rich, perhaps the most fertile in the world, a big reason why is because of this water, the impurities have been removed by nature before it makes its way to the valleys and that further enriches the soil.

In Abruzzo are 4 of the 5 highest peaks in the Apennine Mountains, so the water has a long way to go before it arrives down to the low points and during most of the year these mountain tops have a large build-up of snow which then melts in the summer and becomes drinkable, purified water.  It is a magnificent thing!

The Majella mountains, the largest series of the Apennines, are clearly visible from our Palazzo Tour D’eau and are part of the majestic panorama around our hilltop location.
