Week!<\/strong>\nWe spent an incredible week here at Abruzzo Cibus Cooking School. Claudio did an amazing job leading 21 of us through a week where we learned the intricacies of creating authentic Italian food \u2026 we explored the area including a visit to a mozzarella cheese factory, and the family-owned foundry, Marinelli Bells, who make the bells for the Vatican \u2026and we learned a little bit about the \u2018real\u2019 lives and people in this part of Italy\u2026 He and his team created a truly fabulous adventure! The Palazzo Tour D\u2019eau where we all stayed was stunning \u2013 It sits directly on top of a hill with a magnificent view of this area (The best pictures don\u2019t show how beautiful the area is). The rooms were wonderful\u2014spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean. And as a side note: the hair dryers in the rooms were awesome! The food at every meal was amazing \u2013 using fresh, in-season ingredients, we learned how to cook with an Abruzzese flair. Dino was a patient, kind and entertaining instructor. We were a lively group, and he handled all of us with ease and humor. The meals served to us (also created by Dino) were delicious. I tried to pick a favorite ..but I loved everything! We even had a chance to meet Massimo who is as charismatic in person as the videos show. Besides being the owner of the school, he is a seasoned sommelier and of course has strong opinions about wine\u2014loved his presentation! I\u2019m usually not one who appreciates down time- but I liked having it here to relax and just enjoy being where I was\u2026and that about says it all \u2013 a wonderful week. Amazing seven days in the Italian countryside.<\/strong>\nWe had the most amazing stay at AbruzzoCibus Cooking School, that exceeded our expectations. An all-inclusive package for seven days, the cooking classes that took place in the amazing wine cellar of this building were very well organized and the food we prepared for lunch was delicious with the guidance and expertise of Chef Dino. For breakfast we always had fresh baked delicious pastries and coffee cakes with \u201cCappuccinos,\u201d among fruit, cold cuts and yogurt. The rooms were super clean, nicely furnished with amazing views of the mountains and village. Dinner was always a three or four course culinary experience of Italian cuisine accompanied by delicious wines of the region. The field trips in between cooking classes, were amazing. An hour from Carunchio, we visited an Olive Oil factory; Vasto, a town on the coast of the Adriatic Sea, where we had a city tour and an amazing lunch at a \u201cTrabocco\u201d a seafood restaurant built on the water; the town of Agnone, where we visited a cheese store and \u201cCampane Marinelli\u201d a bell factory. The staff were always helpful and friendly. Massimo, the owner and host of this beautiful place, was always attentive to our needs and requests and shared with us the history of this great palazzo and his family. Special mention is given to Claudio, our tour guide and bar tender; very friendly and great person to talk to about Italy or anything else, great conversationalist. Both Massimo and Claudio speak perfect English. Not included in the package, was the SPA, where you can have a relaxing massage or use the sauna. If you want a relaxing week, with friends and family, or meet new people, and eat amazing food on an Italian village on top of a mountain in an incredible palazzo, this is for you. This place makes you feel like home away from home. We arrived with an expectation that this would be a course for beginners. We were wrong most if not all were experienced foodies. Let\u2019s start with the staff. Massimo, Claudio, Chiara, Adam and Sabina are just delightful human beings. Dino the chef is a superb chef and teacher. He was patient but strict\ud83d\ude09. The Tour was fantastic. The classes were totally hands on with everyone working towards a final delightful Italian dish and dessert. The recipes were easy to follow and delicious. The Palazzo was stunning sitting on top of a hill with a magnificent view of other beautiful towns perched in other hills. The rooms were wonderful, spacious and impeccably clean. Each meal was delicately prepared and presented and superb. The wine we were served was Montepulciano D\u2019Abruzzo from a local winery. We drank like there was not tomorrow. The tours to the olive grove, cheese factory and bell foundry were very interesting as was Claudio\u2019s olive oil tasting. We enjoyed every minute of it. My only regret was not buying more Montepulciano D\u2019Abruzzo from Massimo\u2019s father winery. Make sure to bring your camera, an appetite and another suitcase with clothes two sizes bigger. Massimo, Dino and all the staff were welcoming and very knowledgeable. A nice balance between hands on cooking school, interesting and educational excursions, as well as leisure time. The food and wine were spectacular. Rooms were very clean and comfortable, a nice well stocked bar, and beautiful dining and sitting areas. Transfers to and from the airport were flawless and comfortable. The meals were excellent, introducing a stunning selection of Abruzzese dishes emphasizing fresh, high quality ingredients. There were nearly daily excursions (the production of olive oil and cheese, the historic town of Vasto and an excellent seafood feast, the bell foundry used by the Vatican for centuries, and more). Massimo the owner, and Dino, the chef, have worked together for 18 years, fine tuning the experience and welcoming successive groups. The staff members were great- to mention only two, Claudio was a a great tour guide, and Sabina in addition to serving offered interesting jewelry in the gift shop. Perhaps it was the shared interest in Abruzzese culture and cuisine, but our group was interesting and friendly, so we made new friends. The Palazzo is beautifully restored and comfortable, and a massage in the beautiful new spa is a real treat. My wife and I attended Abruzzo Cibus in September, and everything was perfect, from the staff to the excursions to the food to \u2014 did I mention the food? THE FOOD!! I\u2019ve never looked forward to lunch so much in my life. :-) What can we say about this great tour? The palazzo is beautiful and the town of Carunchio is a fascinating place. The views from the top of the hill are spectacular. Every day was something special, from cooking with chef Dino to learning about wine with owner Massimo to touring with our guide Claudio. We were greeted and introduced to an amazing staff and facility, Palazzo Tour D'Eau. Not necessary, but would recommend the room upgrade. These rooms were spacious and well decorated. On Wednesday, it happened to be our host, Massimo's birthday and he shared his special day with his family and us. His wine presentation should be recorded, very amusing and educational. Dino, the chef, was excellent in his instruction and getting everyone to participate. We had fun and informative excursions nearly every day. It was a bit windy for the fire stoked hot tubs but I did partake with a massage in the spa. We truly felt welcomed as part of the family.
